Today was the day we've waited
for, the berthing of USS Wisconsin next to Nauticus. The bumps and delays
because of details, complaints, plans, re-planning, and compromises have finally
come to an end, and I think we are mostly agreed that Wisconsin is a good thing
for our downtown area.
Of course, this is just the berthing. There will be ceremonies and happenings
throughout the weekend, but the official opening to the public will be in April,
I believe, after the displays are completed at Nauticus and aboard Wisconsin.
Today and the next couple of days will be just sneak-preview days.
So let's get downtown this coming weekend; take some photos, look around and
prepare yourselves for even more to come in April of 2001 when the ship
officially opens for visitors on a regular basis.
