Looking
Ahead
Sat, Dec 30, 2000
So many things, so
little time. Only 365 days, give or take a quarter day, to do all that needs to
be done.
Well, here are my top local items that I'd like to see happen in the next year:
Serious Items
- Hampton Roads Communities Unite into one city
- Round-the-clock public transportation with less time between pick-ups
- A popularly-elected Mayor for Norfolk
- More churches participating in providing shelter and food to the needy
- More citizens volunteering in the community
- Local TV channels on satellite
- Bobby Scott voted out of office
- Less opinion and more facts by local news reporters (print and electronic
media)
- Continued growth for Suffolk
- More diversified industries moving into Hampton Roads
- Continued water taxi and ferry successes
- Cameras to catch red-light runners throughout the region
- A productive year for newly elected officials
Not-So-Serious Items
- A crown for Mayor Oberndorf
- A sand statue of Mayor Fraim
- Knee-Knocker-Knickers for Portsmouth Judges
- A cat on Norfolk City Council
- A basement at Nauticus
- Clothing for PETA demonstrators
- A free shot of Scotch from Lawrence Maddrey
- A day in jail for all the Norfolk City Council members (except Daun
Hester)
- Certificate of Accomplishment for State Senator Rerras
