Coffee Corner at Ward’s Corner in Norfolk is kind of like Cheers (the television sitcom) without the alcohol. There is a bar with stools, and tables if you want more room, as well as a comfortable couch and a soft easy chair if you prefer.

The mainstay is, of course, coffee, and each day brings two or three flavors for you to enjoy, as well as decaf and plain old regular, un-fancy coffee for the people who are serious about their caffeine.

For munching, Bill and Donna have an assortment of cookies, cakes, pies, rolls and Danishes. For a bit heartier appetite, there are breakfast sandwiches on bagels, which are the best I have ever had anywhere. Hot dogs, assorted sandwiches and soup round out the food items. It's not gourmet, but it is good, solid, satisfying food. And the coffee and the Chai Tea are really good.

Oh, if you are at Coffee Corner for breakfast, the best egg, cheese and ham bagel I have ever had is served. I don't know what they do to make it good, the bagel is a soft bagel, but it is delicious.

As in any coffee shop these days, there are the cappuccinos, the espressos and the flavored teas. Coffee Corner appeals to about any taste, no matter how you like your coffee.

Regulars are often found to be sitting around, munching on sweets, drinking coffee and conversing about their jobs, politics and each other's lives. Mingling with the regulars are shoppers, business people, other shop owners and friends of the regulars. Coffee Corner is a very civilized place, indeed, and an ideal place to meet friends or appointments.
