A double treat today for this writer! One fleeting and one eating.
A friend I had not seen since around 1983 invited me to lunch at Smokey's BBQ
Restaurant. My friend is now as much taller than I am as I was taller than he
was at the time we first met. What better way to enjoy a meal than with an old
friend and in a tasty, comfortable restaurant -- and he bought my lunch, too!
On to the meal. There were so many delicious-sounding choices, but we settled on
a platter called "The Great Smokey," which consisted of a large BBQ
sandwich, mine was pork BBQ, ummmm! The side orders I had were baked beans and
fresh Cole slaw, both so, oh so tasty. The BBQ I ordered was so very delectable;
I didn't add anything to it. Didn't want to hide the juicy, flavorful, perfectly
cooked pork BBQ. The spices were perfect, as was the home cooked taste. My mouth
waters as I write about my lunch. Definitely going back to Smokey's!
My friend, along with his BBQ sandwich, enjoyed fries and fried cheese sticks,
which he claimed were great, and he knows cheese, believe me! I'll definitely
have to try the cheese sticks next visit to Smokey's.
Some of the other interesting menu items included a buffalo burger, 100% buffalo
meat, which is said to be high in protein and low in fat. Also on the menu at
Smokey's was a grilled rib-eye steak served on a sub roll. You could also order
hamburgers and hot dogs if you wanted, but this writer goes to Smokey's for BBQ!
On the dinner side, and I'm definitely returning for these, were baby back ribs
and BBQ chicken. These are slowly smoked over hard woods and will cause your
stomach to leap with joy and your tongue to tingle with anticipation even as you
walk into Smokey's. Your nostrils will flare as the enticing smoked meat
seasoned with tried and true spices greets you even before you enter the door.
Not sure what you want? Try one of the combo or sampler dinners, which allow you
to savor a bit of chicken and a bit of ribs. Definitely going back to Smokey's!
