Jewish Mother is one of the finer reasons for visiting Virginia Beach. Deli food is too general a term for this wonderful oasis of good food, drink and entertainment near the ocean in Virginia Beach. Deli Superb, Deli Delightful and Deli Delicious are more specific and I've never been disappointed in the food prepared by the most talented chefs at Jewish Mother. One of the difficulties at Jewish Mother is deciding what you want to order. I always try to start with something I don't order very many places, pickled herring. Oh, so good in that onion pickling juice, whatever it's called. Now, I'm going to mention a few of my favorites, but no short review could do the Jewish Mother Menu justice. There is so much, so much variety and so many tastes catered to on the menu. Heck, the menu is even entertaining to read. And you can color the pictures in the black and white menu as well. So, go, see for yourself, choose for yourself and develop your own bevy of favorites from an extensive menu. Sandwiches such as Mother's Sailor Friend (Split Knockwurst with Melted Swiss Cheese and Pastrami) and Mother's Rubin, and Mother's Other Brother Hymie (Hot Pastrami, Corned Beef with Swiss Cheese) are both delicious and filling, not to mention fulfilling. You'll not order a sandwich and leave hungry. You'll not order a sandwich that doesn't almost leave you humming 'Food, Glorious Food' in your mind. Sandwiches are great, but that's far from all that's on this delightful menu. Nice selections of side and dinner salads are wholesome and fresh. Crepes and omelets rival those of any other place you've ever eaten, and the desserts are tempting, highly caloric and even more delicious than their appearance. They seem to reach out at you as you pass their display case while entering Jewish Mother. And we still haven't mentioned all there is to choose from; you'll just have to go see and eat for yourselves. Beer, wine and mixed drinks add to the festivities, as does regularly great entertainment. Jewish Mother is on Pacific Avenue, just a block from Atlantic Avenue with all the beachfront hotels and a must visit for both locals and tourists. So, what's the delay? Get into your car, catch a bus or hitch a ride to Virginia Beach's Oceanfront and treat yourself, your family and your friends to one of Hampton Roads' Finest and Funnest restaurants. |
