Not too long ago, International House of Pancakes (IHOP) built a location near us.

On a recent Sunday, another couple and this couple went for brunch and, except for the slow service, had a tasty and enjoyable meal.

The difficult part of eating at IHOP is choosing the breakfast you want; there are so many choices, so many combinations.

Breakfast is my favorite meal, and IHOP is one of my favorite places to have it. The food is solidly good; service is friendly, but slow at peak times, but that leaves plenty of time for conversation. After all, breakfast should be a leisurely, convivial meal.

My breakfast included bacon, eggs over easy and home fries. I substituted the Harvest Grain pancakes for the normal ones that came with the meal, and smothered those with strawberry syrup. Orange juice and coffee rounded out the meal nicely. The rest of our party had various combinations of pancakes, eggs and breakfast meats -- sausage, ham, and bacon.

We even had an appetizer that arrived before the meal, about five minutes before the meal, but before the meal nevertheless.

If you decide to go to IHOP on a Sunday, particularly late morning or early afternoon, expect about a 15-minute wait. Generally, the wait is worth it, but we try to go earlier to avoid the glut of people coming out of church.

Major Credit Cards are accepted.
